Learning Centers: The Space
CCV Learning Centers provide a welcoming environment for students to get the academic support they need. Each of our academic centers offers students access to computer labs and study areas, providing open and friendly spaces for studying, one-on-one or group assistance, and study groups.
At CCV, you’ll work closely with an academic advisor from the time you start at the College through graduation. Your advisor will provide you with academic, career, and transfer planning support.
CCV advisors use an advising model that places the student at the center. Through asking open-ended questions, advisors learn about your goals and needs. Advisors partner with you to…
- Explore and clarify career goals
- Inform how educational pathways align with careers
- Identify the knowledge, skills, and beliefs you need to succeed
- Create a personalized academic plan to guide to graduation and transfer
- Guide you in setting short- and long-term academic goals
- Provide general information, resources, and referrals to help you reach your goals
- Learn about your personal circumstances that could support or interfere with your college progress, including:
- academic skills
- belonging and community
- health and wellness
- career choice
- finances
- motivation to complete
- managing commitments
- Assist you in choosing the courses that will satisfy your degree and educational goals
- Address academic concerns or issues that develop
Tips for working with your academic advisor:
- Plan to meet with your advisor at least once per semester, especially during your first few semesters at CCV and as you near graduation.
- Reach out to your advisor whenever you want to develop a habit that supports your progress, sharpen a skill that will help you stay motivated, have a question, or want to share a success.
- It is important that you feel comfortable working with your advisor. If you feel like a different advisor would better meet your needs, just say so. If you are not comfortable talking about this with your current advisor, speak with someone at the front desk. An administrative assistant can help you make the transition.
Schedule an appointment:
- Current students: you can now schedule your own appointments with your advisor and financial aid counselor. Meetings can be held virtually, over the phone, or in-person. Virtual meetings will be held in Teams, and if scheduling a phone meeting, the CCV staff member will call you at your meeting time. Schedule an appointment today by visiting ccv.edu/appointment.
- New students: call your local academic center to schedule an appointment.
If you are considering taking courses at CCV or have questions about getting started, please contact any CCV academic center to schedule a New Student Advising Appointment today.

The Joy of Learning
Kirsten completed a certificate in allied health preparation and an associate degree in behavioral science. She has nothing but good things to say about her CCV experience—the support from her advisors, the enthusiasm of her instructors, and most of all, the informal education she received from fellow students. “[I was] learning a lot about strength and resilience” from her peers, she said, “and just meeting some amazing people who didn’t take the typical go-straight-to-college-after-high-school [route]…these people had life experiences. There were parents, there were people from the military, there were people with health conditions such as myself, and they all just kind of had a joy about them too, to be learning. I just have so much respect for the student body.”
CCV is a great place to get started on the path to a rewarding, high-demand career in healthcare. The health science degree provides a flexible pathway into allied health occupations as well as advanced study in biological or health sciences. Certificates in allied health preparation, clinical medical assisting, community health, medical billing and coding, and pharmacy technician provide preparation for both clinical and administrative roles, and can be applied to the associate degree and further study in healthcare fields. Whatever path you choose, you’ll be well positioned for the workforce or further education.
