Update on FAFSA Message Error
Rest assured that no personal data was compromised as a result of this incident, but we understand that these events are always concerning. Check out our FAQs for more information below, and don’t hesitate to reach out with further questions.
On Wednesday, September 11, multiple emails were sent to the CCV community with incorrect information regarding the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This was not a phishing attempt and messages were sent from a valid CCV email address (info@financialaid.ccv.edu). We still do not know how and why this message was sent, and we are working with our vendor to find the answers.
If you have submitted a FAFSA, you do NOT need to take additional steps at this time. Your data and identity were not compromised.
Many individuals received a second message falsely stating that CCV had a FAFSA on file for them. This message was sent to a smaller, segmented population and was meant to clarify the initial message, but ultimately it led to further confusion. If you did not submit a FAFSA, CCV did not receive a FAFSA.
This incident will be thoroughly reviewed and we will make corrections to prevent this in the future. CCV is working with our messaging platform to ensure this does not happen again.
If you are a CCV student, please reach out to your Financial Aid Counselor for help. If you are not a student, please email financialaid@ccv.edu or call 802-262-6557.
