Honoring CCV’s Veterans

Kyle Aines, CCV’s associate director of veterans services, has one wish for the College’s veteran and military students: “I just want them to feel more [that] our program is here for them as a whole. I want them to feel like they are a part of a bigger group than just a CCV student; that our veteran body as a collective is strong and diverse and very gifted, and brings a lot to our college.”

As a veteran himself, Aines says that working with these students is the “greatest gift that an employee could have.” He says the real value of his work is in the relationships that are built, and he enjoys “helping [students] realize their benefits, their potential, the access that they have, and then having it work for them.”

CCV offers comprehensive direct services for veteran and military students to help them succeed at CCV and beyond. These services include benefit advising, tutoring, and access to technology that can help students with their studies; the Patriot Program, a tailored support structure to help students succeed at CCV and achieve their end goals; a work study program through Veterans Affairs; and the opportunity to join SALUTE, the veterans national honor society. Through all of these support services, Aines hopes that students recognize that “there’s more than just being a veteran student, coming here and using your GI bill. We offer a plethora of services and tools and resources to make [students] successful, not just here but when they leave.”
