MONTPELIER, Vt. — Community College of Vermont (CCV)-Winooski graduate Virginia Litchfield has been named a 2019 New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar and will receive a $2,250 scholarship. Litchfield will be recognized at the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Presidents Breakfast in Orlando, Florida, on April 15th, during the American Association of Community Colleges’ (AACC) Annual Convention.

Litchfield graduated from CCV in December 2018 with an associate degree in liberal studies. This spring, she transferred to Northern Vermont University, where she is working toward a bachelor’s degree in professional studies with a criminal justice focus. She is interested in restorative justice and its contributions to creating strong, inclusive communities. “Receiving the New Century Pathway Scholar Award is a beautiful way to end an amazing experience at CCV!” she said. “As a single parent, this scholarship allows me to continue my studies in an affordable way. I’m truly humbled and grateful to be selected as one of this year’s winners.”

New Century Transfer Pathway Scholars are selected based on their academic accomplishments, leadership, activities, and how they extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom. Over 2,000 students were nominated from more than 1,200 college campuses across the country. Only one New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar is selected from each state. The program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, Phi Theta Kappa, and the AACC.

CCV’s dean of student affairs and strategic initiatives Heather Weinstein congratulated Litchfield on behalf of the College. “CCV is proud to see Virginia recognized for her academic achievements, commitment to reaching her goals, and graceful balance of work, life, and school responsibilities. The Transfer Pathway Scholarship is a testament to her leadership and dedication.”

PTK is the national honor society for community college students. CCV’s chapter was established in 2016.
