The CCV-Bennington Painting I class taught by Stella Ehrich created an online exhibition of their work from the spring 2020 semester. The class, which was an introduction to oil painting, had to shift to online learning halfway through the semester and navigate the challenges that came with painting from home. Some students in the class had never taken an art class before, and others had previously taken drawing classes; all worked at preparing their own painting surfaces and tubing their own paints while gaining familiarity with the medium of painting.

“When I look at the progress that the students made, I feel incredibly proud of them,” Ehrich shared in an email. “Students who never had an art class before, blossomed and developed skills that will bring them a lifetime of pleasure. Painting is an unusual activity because it continually presents challenges (and victories) that give the painter an opportunity to grow and expand regardless of their years of experience. Several of my students have expressed to me their desire to continue to paint beyond this class.”
