Student loans can help cover the cost of college after grants and scholarships are awarded. A private education loan is money you borrow from a bank or lender to help pay for college, and this loan must be paid back with interest and fees. While borrowing funds may be a wise investment, it deserves careful consideration. Our financial aid team is here to explain the basics and provide a list of lenders that our students use.

Explore Grants, Scholarships, and Financial Aid First

Private loans should be your last step, not your first. Follow this suggested order:

1. Grants and scholarships are free money that your do not need to pay back.

2. Federal student loans are loans from the U.S. government. They usually cost less and have more protections for borrowers.

3. Private loans are suggested only if you have already explored steps 1 and 2 and still need money for college.

What to Know Before You Borrow

  • Interest rates and fees are different at every lender. Shop around and compare.
  • Most students need a co-signer, like a parent, to get approved.
  • Private loans do not offer federal income-based repyament or loan forgiveness benefits.
  • You must fill out a private loan self-certification form. This typically comes from your lender.
  • Only borrow what you truly need.

CCV Historical Lender List (Listed A-Z)

These are the private lenders our students have borrowed from in the last three school years (2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26). This list includes lenders that made loans to our students during that time, and currently still offer student loans.

  • The Community College of Vermont (CCV) does not endorse, recommend, or promote any lender on this list.
  • You may borrow from any lender you choose. Your lender does not have to be on this list.
  • We will certify and process your loan from any eligible lender, no matter the lender you choose. While we may ask you to verify the amount you would like to borrow, we will process it without delay once requested.
  • No lender has paid CCV to be included on this list.
  • This list is updated annually and is meant for informational purposes only.
