‘A Great Place to Start’: A Successful Career in Healthcare, Launched at CCV

Bill LaDue was in his mid-30s when he hit rock bottom. He was newly divorced and going through an ugly custody battle over his four children. He had just sold his business and lost his home. “I had nothing,” he remembers.

Community College of Vermont Receives $50,000 for Prior Learning Assessment Scholarships

In honor of its upcoming 50th anniversary, Community College of Vermont (CCV) has received a generous gift of $50,000 from the J. Warren and Lois McClure Foundation to provide scholarships for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) classes.

CCV’s Prior Learning Assessment Program Increases Degree Attainment

45 Vermonters who have taken employer-sponsored Assessment of Prior Learning (APL) classes, in partnership with the Community College of Vermont (CCV), have earned a combined total of more than 1,100 college credits.

Robyn St. Peter says she never believed a college education was in her stars. For one thing, it was expensive. For another, “I never thought I was smart enough.” She’s worked as a firefighter, EMT, LNA, and special education paraprofessional.

CCV: Vermont’s Partner in Workforce Development

In downtown Rutland a few weeks before Christmas, a CCV student walked into the West St. academic center. She was wrapping up the fall semester and looking ahead to more classes in the spring. But she was also struggling with more than the usual pre-holiday stress: she had just lost her job.

Credibility and Integrity

Gary Taylor served in the military and worked as a police officer after graduating from Burlington High School in 1973. He didn’t think a college degree was all that important. Taylor grew up in a blue collar family with a father who believed that if you didn’t work with your hands, it didn’t count as work.
