MONTPELIER, Vt. — The Community College of Vermont (CCV) will hold its 2025 commencement ceremony at Norwich University’s Shapiro Field House in Northfield, Vermont on Saturday, June 7. The ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. More than 500 students will be awarded associate degrees.

The College is pleased to announce that this year’s keynote speaker will be Sara Byers, co-owner & president of Leonardo’s Pizza. In addition to oversight of her family’s business, Sara has served on multiple boards, published two poetry collections, and is also co-host of the Collecting Insight podcast.

CCV will have two student speakers for the Class of 2025: CCV-Rutland graduate Samantha Greene and CCV-Bennington graduate Thomas Huster. Greene has used tragedy in her life to fuel a desire to earn an associate degree in behavioral science and build a career advocating for those in need. She plans to continue her education at Vermont State University this fall. Huster returned to college at age 50 after building a dynamic career as a government contractor traveling the world. Demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning, he is earning a degree in liberal studies with the goal of moving into a management role from his current position working in IT.

The Community Service Award will be given to Scott Giles, president of the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC). Giles is a champion for education access and affordability for Vermont students and families and has supported the collaboration between VSAC and CCV, removing barriers to help Vermonters receive an education.

The College will recognize three faculty members for their commitment to teaching and learning excellence and their many contributions to their CCV classrooms. Sean Dobbin, Ananda Forest, and Eric Scott Frost will receive this year’s Teaching Excellence Awards.

CCV President Joyce Judy will officiate the event. Governor Phil Scott will address the Class of 2025, and members of the Vermont State Colleges Board of Trustees and state lawmakers will be in attendance.
