MONTPELIER, Vt. — Community College of Vermont (CCV) is pleased to announce that it has been approved by the State Apprenticeship Council as a new apprenticeship sponsor. The College will offer registered apprenticeships in Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technician, and Manufacturing Production Technician beginning in fall 2019.

The new programs are supported by an Apprenticeship Expansion Grant, which seeks to increase the number of apprenticeships statewide into industries and positions not traditionally seen as occupations for apprenticeship. All three offerings will include credit-bearing courses, along with a connection to industry-recognized credentials. Most significantly, apprenticeships at CCV will give Vermonters the opportunity to earn while they learn.

The Medical Assisting Apprenticeship includes five college-level courses paired with related instruction in a clinical setting. Modeled after the successful College to Career pathway partnership between Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and CCV, participants can sit for a certification in Medical Assisting once a list of competencies are met.

The Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship includes the newly approved, credit-bearing course, Introduction to Pharmacy, which follows the objectives set by the American Pharmacists Association. Also included in the related instruction is CCV’s new Customer Service course, which includes the Customer Service Institute of America’s Certified Customer Service Experience Professional credential.

The Manufacturing Production Technician Apprenticeship includes two college-level courses, Principles of Manufacturing and Manufacturing Technology, and also includes the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council’s Certified Production Technician credential. As a competency-based apprenticeship, apprentices will work through a list of job functions both in the classroom and on the job.

CCV is proud to work with businesses and organizations around the state to upskill the incumbent workforce and to provide a pipeline of new, skilled workers across industry.
